The internet has truly evolved over the past few years, and has become a massive marketing tool for everyone including music artists. We have seen several artists like Soulja Boy launch their entire careers through web properties like YouTube, Facebook, and of course Twitter.

These sites have also become somewhat of a competition, with everyone fighting for the title of most followed within their respective demographic. Well Nicki Minaj has just captured the title for most followed rapper on Twitter, which was held for quite some time by Detroit emcee Eminem.

The Young Money rapper and her team lead an impressive 2011 with Wayne nabbing the spot for most hip hop album sales with the release of his &8216;Tha Carter 4&8242; album, and Drake&8217;s platinum certified &8216;Take Care&8217; album.

As Nicki Minaj preps for her upcoming &8216;Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded&8216; sophomore album set to release on Valentine&8217;s Day, she will now have nearly 8.2 million Twitter followers to help her album land on the number 1 spot.
